Pain from HIV neuropathy may be eased by capsaicin

March 31, 2008 by Marijke Durning, RN

One issue I don’t address here often is HIV – I’ve not found too much news on it regarding pain and pain control. Today I found an article describing a study using capsaicin patches to treat the pain of HIV neuropathy. According to an article in the Journal of Pain and Symptom Management, up to 62% of people with HIV infection experience the painful neuropathy.

You can read more about the use of the patches and the results here: Capsaicin patch reduces pain from HIV neuropathy.
