Pain Relief book give away

June 30, 2008 by Marijke Durning, RN

As part of my blogging and writing about pain for this blog and pregnancy for Womb Within, I get to review books and products that I can recommend (if I like them) and sometimes offer as give aways to my readers.

blatmanbook I have a book here called The Art of Body Maintenance: Winner’s Guide to Pain Relief, by Hal Blatman, MD, with art done by Brad Ekvall, BFA.

It’s a nice book with lots of detail and diagrams. The program also uses a rubber ball to help apply pressure to relieve chronic pain.

The author covers pain relief from fibromyalgia, myofascial pain syndrome, headache, carpal tunnel syndrome, arthritis and sports injury. If you would like the book right away, it’s available through Amazon.com and you can follow this link directly: The Art of Body Maintenance: Winner’s Guide to Pain Relief.

If you would like a chance to win a copy of the book, leave a comment in the comment section below about the pain you have and, if you would like, the things you have done to try to help yourself. By the way, comments like “just send it to me” don’t qualify!

In two weeks, on July 14th, I’ll gather all eligible comments and randomize them, choosing one winner. Please be sure that I can get hold of you to tell if you win. I have some prizes from contests that have been given to a second draw because the first winner didn’t leave a legitimate email address or never responded to my email.

So, tell me why you’d like the book.

I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and quite often suffer from knee and hip pain. I do take OTC pain meds (as well as prescription meds). I know there are certain things that will trigger the pain but more often than not I get pain for no known reason (that I can find anyway) and would love to learn how to identify the pain and help lessen it before it gets worse.

What I usually do (other than take meds) is alternate with a heating pad and ice, and take warm baths.

I think this book would be a very interesting read.

  12. Linda Moeller says:

    Migraines! Can you fix me?

  14. Anne says:

hmm I may be writing a book here.

I have weeping psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, fibromyalgia, awful headaches etc.

I bet you’ve not ever heard anything like my tongue before.

About 3 years ago, the left side of my tongue started to feel swollen and it burned. The appearance of my tongue was normal. I went to several drs at several clinics, just to have them say, I dunno. I did have my B12 levels checked and they were fine. I went to an allergist, an ear nose and throat guy, my fam dr and a neurologist.

They all looked at me like a was a nut. On a good day my tongue is an annoyance, but on a bad day it feels raw, totally raw, but looks fine.

I think one dr thought it was in my head so to speak and said he thought I had thrush so he prescribed me an antifungal. hmm, I turned out to be allergic to that anti fungal and ended up in another clinic getting benadryl shot in me bum. My skin on my arm was red and burning.

Anyways I ended up sucking on Monistat bullets, oh lord that was not fun lol

But here I sit after three years of suffering not one step closer to figuring out what is going on with my tongue.

What I do to help the pain, is drink a ton of ice cold water and leave it on my tongue as long as possible. Eating ice cream, popsicles, sherbet etc. is also a help.

Because I’m used to chronic pain etc. I honestly think this would drive a normal person mad.

    Any thoughts?

  34. CHARLES ITHEL KASSING says:

    thanks

  35. Kathy D. says:

I have had fibromyalgia for over 10 years. What helps, some anyways, is heat, epsom salt baths, muscle relaxants, exercise and stretching. I’m seeing a naturopath and taking the supplement regimen he prescribed which again helps some. I think what helps the most for me is not overdoing it, which probably explains why I feel better on vacation!

  36. sarah says:

I have jaw problems so I have headaches frequently. I’d love this!

  37. Donna says:

I suffer from chronic pain due to fibromyalgia. I see a pain specialist and in addition to taking medication, I have received physical therapy, trigger point injections, cortisone injections, and am considering aquatic therapy.

  38. Mike Davis says:

I left the website blank because I didn’t know what website you were asking.

I’ve had chronic back and hip pain for seven years. Of course I did nothing because I was afraid it would hurt me.

In March I began aquatic therapy. Exercising in the water is a thousand times better than
    than exercising on dry land.

I’ve progressed enough that I’m actually looking for other physical opportunities.

The Art of Body Maintenance: Winner’s Guide to Pain Relief would be perfect to keep me motivated to keep exercising.

Thanks for Help My Hurt. It’s the first email I open.

    Mike

After having worked hard as any man for 32 years in floorcovering business I had a brain annurysum in 92. After CPR and then emergency surgery Im thankful to be here to watch my Grandchildren grow into fine young people. But, I was left with chronic pain all over my body from nerve damage and also have severe O/A and Fibromyalgia. Life is hard when living in pain 24/7 and Im thankful for the medications the doctors have me on for pain even if it does not take it all away. I love books and reading health books but due to my limited income on SSD I cant purchase. I would love to read this book to see if any one thing could help some of my pain.
