Paper quilting

Welcome to another Technique Tuesday!

I shared the paper quilt Look-See a couple of weeks ago on Make Art Monday. Last week I posted another paper quilt, Not the measure of a woman. So today for Technique Tuesday, I thought I’d run through the basic steps I take to make these.
I often use a mixture of paper and fabrics in my quilted pieces. You can see that Not the measure of a woman has an embroidered muslin patch at the top. Look-See, however, is entirely paper, including some dress-pattern tissue.

Very interesting. It makes my mind really start to think. I am so inspired by what I am finding here.

I have put together a blog about origami quilting, perhaps this is something that you could add to your creations.

Can you let me know if you sell pattern tissue paper. I have tried using ordinary greaseproof paper but it is a bit stiff for hand quilting patterns onto an already made quilt. Thanks Jane White

We don’t sell anything directly from this blog. Do you have a local Michael’s craft store or a JoAnn’s fabric shop? You should be able to get tissue paper there. Or online, MrArt or DickBlick will have it.

[...] Last week, on Make Art Monday, I shared this piece that I made in response to the question, “What are your favorite things to use in your work?” Today, I thought I’d share the general steps that I follow to make a collage of this type. It’s not the same as a paper quilt, but it does have sewing embellishments. [...]
