Family life can be stressful at the best of times. And, if you’re working hard to make ends meet, it may be even more so. While being low-income doesn’t mean you have trouble parenting, research has shown that people in the lower socioeconomic groups don’t have as much help as they may need, compared with their more well-off peers, and this can lead to problems within the family.
According to new study published in the September/October 2008 issue of the journal Child Development, low-income parents who participated in a program called Family Check-Up, a brief, motivational program that identified and encouraged positive parenting practices, saw less problem behaviors in their toddlers than did families who didn’t participate.
You can read more about the study and the program in this press release: Parenting program for low-income families reduces toddlers’ problem behavior.
