Parents’ weekend

Our daughter Dani is a sophomore in the Art Department of her college. Last weekend was Parent’s weekend, so of course Mike and I had to run over and see her. This year she has unlimited access to the art studios, so she was able to take us for a tour.
Dani is taking printmaking this semester. They get to sample a whole bunch of different materials before settling into their favorites. Dani just started a blog where she has promised us she’ll post her work from time to time…as time permits, of course!
I learned one thing from her this weekend that I’d never been aware of before. There’s a difference between wood cuts and wood engravings. Maybe everyone else on the planet already knew this, but not me! The engravings are done on an end cut of wood, and allow for much greater detail. Wood cuts are done on a pice of wood with the grain running lengthwise…a “normal” piece of wood, I guess!
