Though we have heard of solar-powered streetlights already, we still have not heard of solar streetlights in the Philippines. This is the first time in fact that I have heard of such being installed in the country. In a report, Raquel Naciongayo, the officer of Pasig City’s Environment and Natural Resources department, had mentioned that they are installing such so as to help lessen expenses on energy. At present, they had already installed 27 streetlights and these can be found in the Central Business District and in parts of Barangay Kapitolyo.

Naciongayo had mentioned, “During the day, the streetlights would charge up through the solar panels situated on top of the post with its battery, convert and store that energy, and automatically turn on at night, running from 6 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. With global warming and energy issues now a worldwide problem, we have to do our share for the environment.”
