Patriot Day Ideas

Patriot Day can be a sad day as people remember all of the lives lost during the terrorist attacks. Instead of sitting and feeling sad about what happened, I decided I’d like to think of some productive things to do to honor the lives lost. So, what can we do to honor the people who lost their lives on September 11th and to show our support for the people who still mourn their loved ones?

- Fly your flag at half staff. If you have a flag on your home, putting it at half staff is a nice gesture and is a request of the Patriot Day Presidential Proclamation. (The proclamation also asks Americans to observe a moment of silence.)
- Give some support to your local rescue worker crew. Give a donation for better equipment or just write a note thanking them for their service.
- Volunteer at a place that helps others in need. Homeless shelters, food banks, etc.
- Plant something beautiful. I’m thinking it would be nice to start a small garden in a spot visible from the road that you add one plant to each year on Patriot Day. White and red mums and blue dwarf Plumbago would create a beautiful, patriotic display for years to come.
Do you have any Patriot Day ideas?
