Children and constipation. The picture may look funny, but there’s nothing funny about being in it.
The child is grunting, teeth clench, tears in the eyes, and still nothing comes out. Not today, not yesterday, or the day before!
Most children get constipated at one point, and lucky for you parent if you’re child’s bowel movement is regular and smooth. But not having regular bowel movement is not healthy.
So, here are some tips for your child to have a regular bowel movement:
- Drink plenty of water. After a meal and between meals, and not just when the weather is hot.
- Eat high-fiber food such as whole-grains, fruits and vegetables. How much fiber? Add “5″ to your child’s age. My 3YO would need 8 grams of fiber each day. After the age of 15, kids need about 20 to 25 grams of fiber per day.
- Encourage physical activity. These first three tips are components of a healthy active lifestyle.
- Set up a regular toilet routine. Watch to know what time of day your child usually goes, and stick with that.
- Watch for symptoms of constipation, and don’t wait for days to let it resolve on its own. Contact the pediatrician if you suspect constipation.
More tips are found at Pedia-Lax.com. Pedia-Lax is the first complete line of laxatives made just for kids. The line includes new oral laxatives in formulations that are easy on both parents and kids – a quick dissolve strip, chewable tablet and liquid stool softener that mixes with juice or milk. The products come in flavors like grape, watermelon and fruit punch.

Quick dissolve please. And thank you for having this giveaway!
My youngest son is always having trouble. He doesn’t drink enough. He would do best with the chewable tablet.
Chewable tablets would be good, as I enter some of these contests so that I can donate food, medicines and clothing for children in need at the Community Survival Center, or I would include the medicine in a care package for a family that is in need.
Love
Kathy
