According to an article over at WebMD, almost 52% of people with diabetes also develop arthritis – and this includes 27.6% of people with diabetes who are between the ages of 18 and 44 years.![]()
How serious are these numbers? The average percentage of people among the general population between 18 and 44 years old who develop arthritis is 11% – compare that with the 27.6% mentioned above.
The average percentage of people among the general population between 45 and 65 years old who develop arthritis is 36.4% – compare that with the 51.8% for people with diabetes. Finally, in the older population, over 65 years, slightly over 56% will develop arthritis in the general population, 62.4% with diabetes will develop arthritis.
So, what does this mean? Exercising and staying a healthy weight is one way to help reduce your risk of developing painful osteoarthritis. Eating well, sleeping well, all habits of a healthy lifestyle can only help your body as it ages.
