Personal Time for Parents is a Necessity

Parents who take care of their personal needs are not being selfish. Parents who take care of their personal needs are happier, healthier, and better at meeting the needs of their children than parents who consistently sacrifice themselves for their kids. Constructive selfishness is a form of self-preservation and is necessary for self-respect. Children only respect parents who respect themselves.

Even with the kids being teens now, I find it difficult to battle the guilt when I just need to get away for a bit.

Perhaps printing the above statement out and hanging it in a visible location to constantly remind myself that I’m not being selfish, I’m acting on self-preservation might work.

Do you battle the guilt when you need time away?

Amen! I think it’s also pertinent for husbands and wives to take time for each other without the kids so to maintain their marriage and grow together with one another. It is so important!
