Hi Heather: I've been following Petland over on the business channel, too (Franchise Pick). Petland claims the HSUS attacks on them are fraudulent. There are also allegations from franchise owners that they were fraudulently induced to open doomed Petland pet stores. Insights from you and your readers are welcome. You can also go to the AKC website, and they can give you a listing of breeders for the dog you are looking for.

But honestly? There are SO MANY DOGS in shelters, it’s a shame that more people won’t adopt!

Unfortunately, almost any pet store that sells puppies gets them from puppy mills or backyard breeders! I’m glad people are becoming more aware about pet stores – thanks for posting this Heather!
