Gulf Coast Area Braces For Hurricane Gustav

I was so happy to see this on the news last night: Pets are getting the same treatment as their owners during this weekend’s evacuation of New Orleans in anticipation of Hurricane Gustav.

It’s been suggested that the reason so many people didn’t leave during Katrina was because their four-legged family members were not allowed on evacuation buses, so they chose to stay behind and care for their pets themselves.

This time around, carrier boxes and large animal crates were stacked up at bus and train terminals and animals and their people are getting identification bands in case they become separated and can later be reunited. Out-of-town shelters are also offering accommodations to those fleeing the city.
