Pets from Hell

hampsterI was just thumbing through an old issue of Chatelaine magazine and stopped to read about a mom who took her two kids to the pet store to buy two hampsters. She was looking for two docile little pets and instead she got two little critters from hell. They didn’t like to be handled, peed on anything and everything and hissed if you came near them. So, to prevent this from happening to other parents, I thought that I would ask for your stories. What pets have you had that would fall into this category?

I once had a horse that literally kicked me out of the stall while trying to muck him out! It’s not as if I was having fun tossing his “droppings” onto the manure pile. And it sure wasn’t fun when I landed on it. So, I would put King right up there with “Pets from Hell”. Now who else has some stories!

When I was little, we had a cat that tried to eat everybody. A couple of my uncles who were high school/college age at the time, teased the cat pretty badly over a week when it was a little kitten. I think that’s what made him so mean. He had no front claws and all the dogs in the neighborhood literally ran away when the cat came around. He used to stand on the bookcase above my parents bed and just sit there staring at my dad in the middle of the night. When my dad would open his eyes, the cat would pounce onto his chest and run away.

For some reason, he liked me though. Thank goodness.

In grade 5 I got to bring the class hamster home for the weekend and it escaped. My parents had to knock out a wall several months later when a terrible smell was coming from behind the plaster.

To add insult to injury, a week after it happened to us, a For Better or Worse story line started running on the topic and people kept asking if my mother was Lynne Johnson.

I caved and gave my kids a hamster when they were little.

I’ve shared my story too. Almost developed nervous twitches all over again while writing it.

Thanks for bringing up those memories LOL
