Photographing Your Quilting & Fabric Art

July 18, 2007 by Mary Emma Allen

Photographing your quilting and fabric art is easy for some but a challenge for others, especially if you want a really nice photo to send in for a contest, juried show, or publication.  Photos for your own use, your scrapbook, family memories, or just so you’ll have a record of what you made aren’t so critical…although it is nice to have ones that excel here, too.

If you’re having problems with your photography, especially when it comes to using a digital camera, like I do, you might want to consider taking some tips from another Arts and Design blog, Digital Photography School.

If you visit Artist Hideout, William  Lehman will show you what not to do when taking photos of art work and why he finally hired a persona photographer when he wants great pictures…ones for which his camera phone won’t suffice.  Check out How to photograph your art work…and maybe how not to.

Do you have some tips for photographing quilting and fabric art?

  1. Adrienne says:

great post! Thanks for the links!

  2. Thanks Mary Emma, another option that I’ve kinda used with Claude, is that he gets free publicity on Artist Hideout when he takes an image for me. Maybe other art, design, craft bloggers could use that concept too.

  3. Thanks, Adrienne, for visiting Q & P and taking time to leave a comment. Pleased you enjoyed the post

  4. William, thank you for visiting Q & P and sharing the arrangement you have with Claude, your photographer. Yes, it probably could work for other art, design, and craft bloggers, too.
