Piano Company With Largest Solar Cooling System

Steinway and Sons is one of the most known companies that deal with creating pianos. And one of the most recent pieces of news about this piano company is that it has made a move towards becoming cleaner and greener.

What Steinway and Sons did was to put up a rooftop system which is solar powered. This solar powered rooftop is deemed to be the largest one in the world which will be used for cooling the factory. This is needed because it can get pretty hot inside the facility and when that happens, the pianos that are being built (or are already built) will be affected.

The whole solar powered rooftop system cost Steinway $875,000. But part of it was a grant from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority.

Bill Rigos is the manager of the facilities of Steinway and Sons’ Queens facility and on the new solar power system, he said, “It’s critical that we find energy-efficient ways to dehumidify our plant, and the solar panels are the answer.”

  1. It’s great to see larger companies leading the way on these solar PV projects. Maybe just as important, the need for energy efficiency controls and equipment will also be great in the future.

After all, energy production + energy efficiency = good financial sense!
