Picking Autumn Fruits, Call for Recipes

Autumn Fruit Picking expedition
We went on a small autumn fruit stealing picking expedition last weekend, and here’s our harvest: more than 10 kilograms of apples, a basketful of plums, and half a dozen pears. A pity we were a bit late for the blackberries. The way the bushes looked trampled upon, somebody obviously got there first.

My son and I have already baked two cakes, but we’ve still got kilos to “get rid of”. I’m cleaning up my jars to make plum marmelades and jams, but aside from that, can you recommend any other recipes or dishes I can use these fruits on? Or do you maybe know a good jam combo? Unfortunately, these fruits are still hard and a bit unripe, or I could have juiced them.

I think it is so cool to be able to pick your own fruit and eat it. I wish my children could experience something like that.

But it is not YOUR fruit!! It would be cool to take your children to pick your own fruit, or that of which you have permission to do so. Do not think it is okay to steal other people’s fruit. Do you pay property tax on the land those trees are on??? If not, perhaps you should not be so bold as to pick and brag about your expeditions. As an owner of four beautiful and fruitful trees, I have to say that this is offensive. If you asked to pick some, I might agree to it. I often leave baskets of fruit I harvest and do not eat/can at the roadside for neighbors.

Hi Amelia! Thanks for leaving a note. Don’t worry, we were not picking on somebody’s backyard, on trees that were kept or owned by anyone. These trees grow wild on the edge of the woods nearby. Think of it as some kind of foraging. They were on public property, and the community is cool with it.
