Pink Hair Fiasco Take 2

pink-hair-blog-flat.jpgSo, I decided to ask someone else to do my pink highlights again. Thank Goodness my previous disastrous Pepto Bismal meets Neon Nightmare washed out after only 3 washes.

So, this chick I know from my daughter’s school is a hairdresser and she invited me to her house to get them redone.

Everything seemed to be going so well.  The kids played well together. We chatted about this and that. Talked about the work she had done on her house. Yada Yada Yada.

Then she rinsed me and I held my tongue when she said it would take a minute to warm up. My previous hairdresser had said we must rinse in cold or the pink would run onto the blond. But, I held my tongue. Who am I to tell her how to do her job? She’s an experienced hairdresser at a top salon in town – she knows what she’s doing, I said to myself.

Well, apparently, I should have spoken up. While she’s blowing me dry she tells me, all very casually, I know what we should do next time. We really should have rinsed the strands individually instead of all the hair at once because it bled all over the blond.

I’m looking in the mirror trying not to freak out and nodding all polite like.

You can just put a baking soda mixture on the parts you think should be blond and it will mostly come out.

Yeah, sure I’m nodding. What I’m thinking is, Gee if I had ruined someone’s hair I would apply the baking soda mixture myself and make sure it gets fixed.

The left side of my head looks like it’s supposed to look. The right side looks like the pink bled all over the blond. It looks acceptable only in a pony tail.

Now, I had intended to pay her $55 for this. And I had her apply 4 streaks to my 5-year-old daughter’s hair.

Then as I’ve got my checkbook out she’s like, Oh, just give me $10 for the product and next time you can come to the shop.

And then I TIPPEDher. She bled the pink all over my blond hair and I tipped her anyway.

Seriously, what the hell is wrong with me? Why am I so intimidated by my hairdressers? Really, I’ll demand a refund from just about anyone else who does a bad job. But, I feel some sort of need to be overly-polite and a very good tipper to the hairdresser.

I really don’t even feel competent enough to apply a baking soda mixture. I know I’ll just make a big mess and strip the parts that are supposed to be pink and it’ll be just a bigger fiasco.

Maybe it’s time to give up hair altogether. I’m already frustrated that in 4 months I’m going to have to go to the hairdresser again to get my roots done. Perhaps I should just take Tammy Bean’s advice and go back to my natural color.

I wonder what color that is.
