Pink Ribbon Giveaway: The Department of Lost and Found

Today the paperback edition of one of my favorite books comes out — The Department of Lost and Found by Allison Winn Scotch.
A little later today I’ll post the review I wrote when the hardcover came out. But here’s the teaser:
“The book’s heroine, Natalie Miller, a 30-year-old single woman working as a senatorial aide, is loaded with ambition and gumption. Her world is rocked when she’s diagnosed with breast cancer. That’s where the story begins … read this excerpt from page 13:
“‘So you have to understand that in the span of less than a month, my (disloyal, scum-sucking) boyfriend of two years dumped me (”I can’t handle this” is how he put it, right before I threw a vase at his head, which, surprisingly enough, because he wasn’t much of an athlete, he actually manged to duck); my job, which previously had been my lifeblood, had been paired down to admittedly semidesperate emails; and my health, my mortality, something I’d never even given a flying fig of a thought to, was suddenly in total jeopardy. So it’s not hard to see why I was coming more than slightly undone.’”
It’s such a great read. And I’ve got such great news:
Allison has sent me a copy of the paperback to give away to a Pink Ribbon Reader!
I’ll choose a commenter, at random at month’s end, after I’ve pulled the name for the Belkin iPod case. Of course, if you can’t wait … you can buy the book through Amazon!

Looks like a good book.
Alison belongs to one of the writing groups I belong to and I have been meaning to read this book; just haven’t gotten around to getting it yet.
This sounds like something that I would love. I am going to have to check it out. Thanks for the suggestion.
Boy, am I ever glad my husband was not like the jerk in the excerpt when I was diagnosed! I’d love to read this book! I’m a 5 year breast cancer survivor, and participating in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life for the first time this June! Woo-hoo!
I would really love to read this
Thanks.
I love books that feature survivors.
I would love this for my mom
Sounds wonderful!
Looks like a great book. I am always looking for new authors.
i love to read.
I would absolutely LOVE to get my hands on a copy of this book. I’ve heard such great things about it and, so far, I’ve limited myself to the Oprah Book Club list. I need to expand my horizons and possibly learn a thing or two about this craziness called “life” – in a teaching manner that only a good book can do. A good book wrenches out your soul, all raw and bare, and shares the diversity that is the human experience. Be well. And thank you for this opportunity!
Count me in!
Looks like a good read!
Nice prize.
My disabled wife of more than 38 years LOVES to read. This book would make her day. Thanks for all the excellent contests!
I’m so glad you are all here — for some of you, I want to say thanks for participating in this giveaway — for others, thanks for sharing your story. For all of you, thanks for taking notice of an awesome, awesome read!
sounds like a good read
Please count me in.
Sounds nice!
I’d love to win this
My aunt is now recovering from her mastectomy. She is a strong person and I hope all will be ok.
I’d love to read this – always looking for a good book. Both of my grandmothers had breast cancer and both survived, so I’ve seen the battle that is fought everyday. I just hope I’m never on the front line.
enter me!
Karen-
Thank you so much for hosting this giveaway! There are so many interested readers that I’d love to donate another copy…so…two lucky readers will get the book! If you absolutely can’t wait, feel free to nab it at your local bookstore!
Allison
I am a survivor of cervical cancer. I would love to read this book.
Wooo Hoooo — you guys read that? Allison, you are awesome! Thank you for checking in and for being so generous.
Thanks to all of you who just joined the competition.
And Tarah, your comment about being on the front line struck me. The important thing for you, with a family history, is to keep regular doctors appointments and adhere to guidelines for your breast health — breast self exams and annual mammograms whenever your doctor suggests you personally begin.
For people without a family history, the American Cancer Society recommend a baseline mammogram at age 35!

It’s always interesting when huge things happen, you begin to see sometimes the reality of your relationship. Sounds like a good read.

I am a Forty year old breast cancer survivor…I just finished my chemo treatments four weeks ago… I am sooooo thrilled to be finished and to get on with my life !! This is a book I’d love to win, but even if I don’t, I will be buying it for myself.

Thank you for this book and the contest. As a four-year survivor, I am still trying to figure out my “new normal”. Hearing how others (even fictional characters) have handled breast cancer and the changes it brings provides reassurance that things will work out.
This is a great cause. I’d love to read the book.
Looks like a good book. My father just passed away from cancer, so I can relate to it.
great giveaway.
this sounds like something that I would like

Hi, I am a 14 year breast cancer survivor, that just recently found out that it returned. I am on a medical leave and I love to read all types of books.
At 33 cervical cancer was my diagnosis. I was very blessed to have a great Dr and wonderful family. I am one year cancer free. I feel I was lucky even though it changed me forever. My thoughts and wishes go out to everyone who has ever been affected by cancer!
