Plea to stop trials of cannabis based drug

This is disturbing. An elderly woman died during the trial of a cannabis based drug after developing mental problems. Mrs.Rene Anderson, 69, started taking Sativex in 2003 and started showing disturbed behaviour within hours of taking her first dose. She was admitted to the hospital after taking the drug for 28 days and died in March 2004 from acute kidney failure. The trial was to find out if cannabis based drugs can be used for pain relief caused by diabetic neuropathy. The trial is funded by Diabetes UK and continued even after Mrs.Anderson’s death. Her family has called for an end to the trials. The drug has been granted a license in Canada but not in UK.
