Plum Wine
I took this photo and made notes on a cocktail napkin the first time BK and I ate at Kamakura in Alameda. Having been told by co-workers and customers that it was the best sushi in town, I was happy to judge for myself that it was. Plus, the owner is a sweet little lady who passes out glasses of plum wine when you’re done with dinner. I must have forgotten about it back in the craziness of December but was reminded of my intention to post when we returned last night.
No idea where those notes went, but I can tell you what I committed to memory on the second try. The first sip made me think of petits fours, those baby cake bites covered in icing with swirling roses and other such decorations. BK said marzipan, and I agreed to the sweet almond flavor. There was also some apple lurking in the background, though more like the juice I used to crave when I was small, climbing into my parents’ bed with a book, demanding a glass. I think I enjoyed it the first time more for the novelty, whereas this time it was just too sweet. Since they give so much of it away, I can’t imagine that it costs much, so perhaps not all plum wine should be judged by this one.
Any plum wine drinkers out there? Or do you know if there are a variety of styles and sugar levels?

I can’t say I have ever tried plum wine. Not even sure if I would like that, I prefer the dry. Thanks for leading me to your site, I’ll definitely drop back by.
Thanks for stopping by! I think I found your site (happily) through a comment on Pinotblogger.
