Poking a hole in infertility.

Whaddyaknow? Acupuncture can actually boost IVF success rates. Researchers in Adelaide, Australia conducted trials with over 1,000 patients. Half the women were given real acupuncture, while the rest were given non-invasive needles. The first half had double the pregnancy rate after IVF. The study dovetails with one done in Germany in 2002, where researchers found that acupuncture in women undergoing IVF increased success rates by 50 per cent.

While the scientists can’t say for sure why the needles have such an effect, any traditional Chinese sinseh will tell you it’s all about achieving better health in all areas by regulating the flow of qi.

If you’re undergoing IVF and want to boost your chances, check out Daniel Lee, a US-based acupuncturist specialising in infertility.
