Researchers have found that poor blood sugar control in kids could mean they are suffering from depression.  The study involved 2672 diabetics, aged between 10 and 21, most of them having type 1 diabetes and is the largest American study of diabetes in kids.  Some of the findings of the study are

  • 8.6 percent of the participants were moderately or severely depressed, while 14 percent were mildly depressed.
  • Females were more depressed than males on an average.
  • Type 2 diabetes was more closely linked to depression than type 1 diabetes in males

I can offer anecdotal confirmation of this. I’ve got a HUGE sweet-tooth and have learned (the hard way) over the years that my mood is closely connected to my diet. Eat well = feel well; Eat like crap – feel like crap.
