Positive Exposure: Photographs Celebrating Genetic Variation
Positive Exposure is the brainchild of former high-fashion photographer Rick Guidotti. The not-for-profit organization aims to:
…challenge the stigma associated with difference and celebrates the richness of genetic variation with positive images and powerful life stories.
The gallery of photos at the website showcases people with genetic conditions; some don’t look different in any obvious way and others who appear to be physically/mentally challenged.
As a matter of fact, all of us carry genetic mutations of some form, but the degree to which these genetic differences manifest outwardly and/or impair our quality of life varies and is subjective. Keep that in mind next time you see someone who is visibly different than the average.

I am a teacher at a high school in Maryland. I have shared the “Positive Exposure: albinism” photos in an old Life Magazine with my students in class to demonstrate to them an example of genetic variation among humans, I would love to have a clip of any interviews or photoshoots to increase student engagement in my class. Could I get a hold of anything like that?
Laura – please check out the Positive Exposure website at http://www.positiveexposure.org – you can access images and video there. There is also video access to four TV segments on PE on Brightcove.com. Rick travels regularly to Maryland and would probably love to give one of his amazing presentations in person to your students. You can email him at rick@positiveexposure.org.
