Positively Friday

As this week winds down, my favorite weekend of the entire year is just gearing up. I coach competitive gymnastics a few afternoons a week and this weekend is the State Championships for the level I work with.

My 2 daughters and I are making it into a girls weekend having just driven a few hours to the competition site. We’re checked in to our hotel and they are winding down by catching High School Musical 2 for the gazillionth time. Neither one of them is competing this weekend – my older daughter competed last weekend and my younger daughter is a swimmer – rather they are along for the support and to cheer on their friends.

I am looking forward to a weekend of high fives, personal bests, and team work. Its kind of like graduation for this group of girls who started team a year ago as kids who took gymnastics classes and now they call themselves gymnasts. Once this competition is over most of them will move up to the next level and continue on their journey in the sport – others will pick another path and try a different sport,  but either way, they have all achieved greatness in my eyes.
