Potato Ricer

With Thanksgiving fast approaching, I have been starting to plan my Thanksgiving menu, make my grocery list and make sure that I have all the necessary equipment for a smooth sailing meal. A potato ricer is a gadget I have placed on my list this year as a must-have. This is one of those gadgets that is actually worth the $20.
A potato ricer is to help make your mashed potatoes smooth and lump-free. It looks like a large garlic press and used in much the same way. When you press the cooked potatoes it comes out in these long strings. Then when you mix-up your milk, butter, etc…with the potatoes you get perfectly smooth mashed potatoes.
You will probably find other uses for it as well. I saw one review where the cook used it to make gnocchi. You can find potato ricers all over the web and in stores like Target, Williams-Sonoma and Bed, Bath and Beyond.
