Potty Dance & YouTube Peer Pressure

Thanks to Ainsley, Zack is potty training. He pooped and peed in the potty.
Peer pressure rocks.
We logged on to post the Potty Dance on YouTube and do you know how many other people posted their child’s potty training success, techniques or humor? Hundreds. Maybe thousands?
Evidently, it’s the new right of passage.
I spent the next 10 minutes applying subtle peer pressure,
Look, Zack. That baby can go to the potty.
Oh, so can that one.
Look at him, he must be same age as you. I bet he doesn’t wear diapers anymore.
Zack was fascinated.
Peer pressure was also the technique that finally got Ainsley to tie her shoe. She’s almost 7 and this year I refused to buy shoes with ties that she wanted because she refuses to learn to tie them.
This little boy was standing there and I said, That boy can tie his shoes, How old are you? Only 5? Ainsley that 5 year old little boy can tie his shoes.
If I tie my shoes will you take me out for Chinese food?
Heck yeah.
And then she did. And I bought her the tennis shoes that tie instead of velcro and we went out for Chinese.
I’m jealous. My little bit just sits there..and sits,..and sits..then he gets up, and stands and stands and stands..we’re frustrated over this way. Frustrated and sick of diapers.
At home I’m not putting him in diapers anymore.
I figure we have to break the psychological addiction to them. I know it’s an addiction because he’s bringing me a diaper and asking me to put it on him so he can poop.
If he can do THAT he can learn to go potty.
That Girl – take him on YouTube and show him all the “big kids” who go to the potty.
I’ve always believed in positive peer pressure. That’s why a couple of years of public school will teach a kid social skills he doesn’t learn at home. Like not picking your buggers and eating them, important stuff like that.
Gosh, I guess I’m the only one here who doesn’t think it’s such a great idea to post these videos on the Internet.

If this is my biggest parenting crime I guess I’m doing all right.
Originally, I took the video for my Mother in Law who is out of the country – but has her laptop. I don’t know how to send a video without YouTube.
I wish I could edit out the pee and poo shot – but I don’t know how.
Then I thought the actual boogie dance was so hilarious I figured – why not? My Blog Fabulous readers will get a kick out of it.
The fact that it’s a new thing to post your toddler’s Potty Dance video on YouTube was as much news to me as it was to you.
But, when I was there the effect on my toddler was fascinating.
He’s asked to see his own potty dance and the other kids several times since then.
If it works – I’ll do it.
