President-Elect Obama Defines Criteria for Family Dog

One of the “most important issues” that President-elect Obama spoke about in today’s news conference was what kind of dog his family plans to get!
He said there are two major factors, the first being that daughter Malia is allergic and they’d need a so-called “hypoallergenic” dog, and the second being that they’d like to get a shelter dog. However, the two don’t usually mesh well together (you can’t usually get too specific about what dog you’d like from a shelter) so they’re still weighing options.
One of the most popular hypoallergenic dogs being talked about is a poodle, which don’t shed as much and which the family has apparently expressed interest in in the past.
What do you think? What kind of dog would the new first family get?

Some people with severe allegies are still allergies to the “hypoallergenic” dogs. They should probably spend some time with one of the dogs to see if she has a reaction to it.
Hmm, i think they should get a cat!
I agree whole heartedly with Peggy. They should get a cat! Cats are awesome. Another wonderful pet is a rat, they are the sweetest little things ever. They have a bad reputation but should be right up at the top of the list for best pets ever.
I vote schnoodle all the way! I have tons of allergies and have no problem with ours.
Rats are good pets, but the problem is that they don’t live very long and there isn’t much the vets can do for them. They usually live about 2 years and then they die a sad and painful death. We’ve had a few rats and they were sweet and cute, but the short lifespan was just too much for me.
Karen – that’s exactly why we don’t have rats anymore either. It’s just gotten too hard when they die
guys, there are enough rats in washington as it is.
And a man in politics needs a pet that will love him no matter what, therefore, a cat is out.
Its got to be a dog.
Full blooded standard schnauzer is my opinion. I love mine, no matter how stubborn she can get.
The shih tzu is also a good breed for those with allergies. I can picture a shih tzu in the White House!
A Labradoodle… all the personality of a Lab plus hypoallergenic like a poodle.
