Product Review: Fiber One Chewy Bars
Several weeks ago (months actually, as the last quarter has been a frenzied chaos for me), I was sent a box of Fiber One Chew Bars (Oats and Chocolate), for review. I placed them in our pantry with every intention of trying them out the first minute I can sit down and study the accompanying reading materials they sent. Now I’m kicking myself for not having tried them earlier!
If you want the short version, here it is: Fiber One Oat and Chocolate Chewy Bars are fabulous!
They taste great, not too sweet, with just the right amount of chocolatey goodness for the flavor, but not too much to make you feel like you’re eating a chocolate bar instead. I find the texture just right: chewy, but not rough, not dry, doesn’t crumble, and doesn’t take ages til you can swallow without injuring your throat.
On the nutritional viewpoint, one bar is supposedly enough to provide 35% of your daily dietary requirement for fiber. What’s fiber good for? Aside from keeping you “regular”, fiber intake has also been documented to help prevent cancer, lower blood cholesterol, and improve blood sugar control. I am surprised that none of these health claims appear on the package label of Fiber One.
Aside from fiber, they are also a good source of calcium (10% of daily value), has no trans-fats and clocks up only 140 calories per bar. They’re perfect as snacks for those always on the go.

I thought they were delicious but the hydrogenated coconut oil & palm kernel oil listed in the ingredients makes me wonder if they are a good choice to eat.
I have had stomach issues from ulcers to acid reflux to a “spastic stomach” for 18 years. Taking all types over over the counter and prescription medications to settle my stomach, I found fiber was the best solution. But really, who likes to mix a fiber supplement drink every morning. And the fiber drinks would just give me gas anyway and that meant a gas pill to go with the fiber drink… too much work and I am lazy.
After 1 week of the Fiber One bars I feel better than I have in as long as I can remember. Oh, and they taste GREAT. A breakfast bar that is not dry and chalky or full of “fruit” filling. It is moist, chewy, chocolatey, not to sweet; an enjoyable breakfast or afternoon snack. The whole family likes them, including our 6 yr old.
Theyre fricking addicting!!…Stop eating them after youve been a regular for awhile….youll see…; )
Yes, they are tasty but I won’t buy them anymore after I noticed the ingredients contained hydrogenated oils. I don’t understand how companies can still use hydrogenated oils and claim that it’s healthy. The fiber is great for your health/digestion, but the oil is terrible for you and far outweighs any benefit a product may have.
I could get over the hydrogenated oils if it weren’t for the amount of sugar. 10g IS too sweet and the taste of the bar verifies this.
i think fiber ones’ are you yummy!!! Thought they may have an insane amount of sugar i love them and gives me a boost all day
I absolutely love the fiber one oats and chocolate chewy bars. I can’t eat enough of them. The yogurt isn’t bad either. I really like the strawberry and vanilla.
Is it just us or do these delicious, seemingly good-source-of fiber actually give you soft stools? I thought fiber was supposed to increase bulk and make it more pleasant to go number 2.
I loved them too! Until I noticed they have some transfat and high fructose corn syrup in them.
I’m not buying anything with any transfat anymore so now they are off my shopping list permanently. So sad because they taste so good!
i tried the caramel ….there the BOMB there great..perfect for breakfrast or a snack at work.beats chips.
I agree these are the best tasting granola bars out there (despite the gassy side-effects), but Geez people! I hope you didn’t expect General Mills (the maker of Fiber One Bars) to do you a favor and cut out the HFCS and hydrogenated fats! They use this stuff to cheapen the product so you can get it at a comparable cost as to other granola bars. If you want a clean label then be ready to fork out the money and expect to find it at Whole Foods.
This bar was good but unforturnatly I do not know what was in it that gave me a terrible allergic reaction. I guess I won’t be buying these again.
Nancy, The bars have peanut flour in them? A lot of people are allergic to peanuts.
If you really want to eat healthy avoid these bars!
Look at the ingredients, full of high fructose corn syrup and all kinds of additives and preservatives.
If you want healthy and yummy go to LAra Bars, Prana bars Pure bars and Raw revolution Bars
I eat 2 of these a day for the last year, i feel great and about the ingredients im sure people are putting worst things in there body than a fiber one bar lol…its an excelent source of fiber which everybody needs more of and if you dont have time its perfect but thats just my opinion and hfcs doesnt spike your insulin and 9 grams of fiber slows down the absorption im sure the makers of fiberone knows what they are doing
I bought the chocolate and oatmeal ones, and liked the taste of them, but about a half hour later, I had so much gas all day long. So I won’t be buying them again, that’s for sure.
I think the reason they don’t make any of the health claims about lowering cholesterol etc. is because of the type of fiber in them. Check out this article for more info. http://blog.nola.com/chrisbynum/2008/10/not_all_highfiber_foods_are_as.html
Love your “short review” I second it! Where have I been? Missing out of these granolay goodness, that’s where!
