Progress Update, Egyptian Sampler

Yesterday was an exciting needlework day. I finally got to start stitching Egyptian Sampler! When I first bought the chart and floss, I also made up my project floss cards. Noted the chart symbol next to the hole on the card, and filled ‘em up. For the blended colors I just cut one length of each color, so there are 6 prepped lengths of each color ready to stitch with. I cut two lengths of non-blended colors, so I could separate and re-combine the strands and have 6 lengths ready of the non-blended colors as well. I’m glad I did that weeks ago, because it meant that my free time for stitching could actually be used to stitch.
I managed to mis-count the little rectangular boxes in the border as my first order of business, and had to frog it. There was simply no way to fudge, because I stitched them as 3 squares long, and they needed to be 4 squares long. I think the border will “pop” more once it is backstitched. I plan to get several inches of the border completed first, and then backstitch about half of it, so I can have a really good visual comparison.
I am pleased with the way it is working up, though it is tedious. I can’t just cheat and carry my floss across the back because of all the eyelet stitches- I don’t want the threads to be in the way of the eyelets. The back was looking impressively neat until I had to start & stop little sections of color so frequently. heh.

Neat
I see it has a lot of speciality stitches, judging from the huge eyelet appearing from the start.
Me doing TW now as well, I decided to combine the blended colors and put them on new bobbins; when finished with them will put each thread back to the “mother” bobbin.
Someone asked me once why I do the backstitch “as I go”, same as you here – to be able to see a small part of the final result/gain an idea what will become
It does have a lot of specialty stitches. There are small eyelets along the entire border, and a zillion quarter stitches. It’s insane, and I love stitching on it!
