Prostatitis, painful disorder of the prostate

August 4, 2008 by Marijke Durning, RN

Prostatitis, is the the painful inflammation of the prostate, a walnut sized gland that produces sperm.

Many men suffer from pelvic pain caused by prostatitis because they don’t want to talk about it. However, left untreated, prostatitis can become a more serious problem. The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) has produced a fact sheet to educate men on how prostatitis is diagnosed and treated:Prostatitis: Disorders of the Prostate. Hopefully this information will make it a bit easier for men to talk about it.
