Provence, By Way of Napa Valley

Peju ProvenceThough I did not particularly enjoy my visit to Peju Winery, I did take home a couple bottles of the unusual red and white blend: NV Peju Provence. A quick look at the notes on the website showed that it is 62% red (Cab, Merlot, and Zin) and 38% white (estate Chardonnay and French Colombard).   I found vanilla, cherry, raspberry tart.  Round and soft, oak influence comes through. Lightly floral. Strawberry lemon custard/cheesecake. Easy to drink and very nice with BBQ chicken sandwiches and corn on the cob. What really struck me when getting the facts was how close my tasting notes were to the ones on the fact sheet. And that the residual sugar was listed at 1.4, which seems a little high.

Nothing mind-blowing but pleasant in its simplicity. Now I wish that second bottle hadn’t broken in the trunk when we were driving home.

  1. yeah 1.4 does seem a bit high, but was it noticable at that level? I would assume so. Even those they are calling it a Rose, it is in fact and I thought Provencal Roses are always dry…

    They actually didn’t call it a rose’, I just put it in that category because it’s the closest thing. They just said “red and white blend.”
    As for the RS, it was a little noticable, but I wouldn’t have guessed that high.
