Question of the month: What’s your favorite comfort food?

So, you already know that I’ve declared November to be Comfort Food Month. Now I have to ask you all…what’s your favorite comfort food?

You’ll notice throughout the month that many guest chefs and authors have contributed to our plethora of amazing recipes. Not wanting to leave anyone out, if your family has a special comfort food that you’d like to share, please let me know! You can email me at cyndi @ b5Media.com (remove the spaces), and I’d be delighted to share your favorite too, along with credit to you and your website link!

Here are some of my favorites: apple pie, chili, mac and cheese, meatloaf, rice pudding, gelato, bread pudding, mashed potatoes, chicken pot pie, polenta, creamy soups, chicken noodle soup, grilled cheese sandwiches, pot roast, risotto, brownies, corned beef hash, cheesecake, chocolate pudding, matzah brei, kugel…and did I mention anything that is chocolate? :-)

    I like any sort of bread, especially Aussie Damper. Rice Pudding with orange or rose flower water, mamooul (dates in biscuit type paste), vegemite and hummous with tahini.

    Shirley, inquiring minds want to know more about these amazing sounding treats! What is Aussie Damper?

    An Aussie damper is a rough ball shaped bread originally made (thrown together) in the ‘outback’ in a dirt oven. Similar to soda bread it is made with pretty much any variation of self raising flour, salt, milk or water with or without butter and sugar. The idea is that it was made by the poorer drover, swaggie or outback family while on the road and from whatever they had available wrapped in bark or leaves or put in a iron pot and buried in the ashes of a fire. It is YUM hot and a little floury to taste.

    Oh yeah…that sounds like the ultimate in comfort food. Just like polenta in Italy, naan in India, johnny cake in the south USA, etc etc!
