Hi. I am considering buying a Silhouette machine but after reading some negative comments I'm not so sure. Most of these comments are 1-2 years old. Can you tell me if the letter welding problem has been solved since these comments were posted?
Thanks.

There really should be some current reports. Silouette has come a long way. The new software works with Vista, no problems. It is wonderful to be able to buy designs on line any time of day or night and to also be able to create my own designs and use free fonts. I am having so much fun.

I love the QuicKutz Silhouette, you can use Inkscape (free program) weld the letters together. I don't have Vista thank goodness as I have heard what KathyT says is correct, the Silhouette/Wishblade don't work with Vista. I love not having to buy a new cartridge everytime I need a new font, I just find a free one on the internet!

The Silhouette may be cool - but I wouldn't know - as I have a 62 bit Vista system. THIS IS A WARNING TO ALL VISTA USERS - Don't buy the Silhouette until you determine what your system is - 62 bit v. 32 bit. THE SILHOUETTE DOES NOT WORK ON VISTA 62 BIT SYSTEMS AND MAY NEVER - THOUGH THE COMPANY SAYS A DRIVER MAY BE AVAILABLE IN JANUARY OF 09. The website is very misleading on this point - it is only until you seek out the fine print that you understand that the Silhouette is, in fact, NOT compatible on all Vista systems. Shame on them for not being more upfront about this.

If you are looking for a machine to cut true type fonts, but a Cricut machine and then a software call "sure cuts a lot" from www.craftedge.com.

I just learned about this software while doing research on which machine to get... Check out what ppl are doing with it @ forums.surecutsalot.com

I recently purchased the silhouette and am having the hardest time making anything. The letters are impossible, it does use many fonts but without being able to weld them together it's sometimes impossible to use them. I have a lot of computer experience and am having an extremely difficult time using it. I downloaded inkscape, am using word and the software that came with it, ROBO Master. It's very frustrating and I'm considering returning it. I was debating between this and the Cricut Expression and the deciding factor was the fact that I wouldnt' have to buy cartridges. You still have to buy cd's or files though unless you can make your own or use free ones, which aren't always the greatest quality, or the largest selection.

I do love my Silhouette, but have downloaded Inkscape and I am learning to weld works using this program. Lots of learning curb, so I would love an upgrade on the Silhouette that would weld the words right in the program. Then it would be PERFECT!
