Quilt Trunk Shows – An Innovation of Presentation

Trunk Show Displays

Quilters sometimes use old trunks, or reproduction trunks, for transporting and displaying their quilts for shows, workshops, and lectures.  The trunks add appeal to the display and a bit of nostalgia to their talk or workshop.

This way, they can share their wonderful collection of items in a unique way:

  • Antique quilts
  • Fabric art
  • Wearable art
  • Samples of the work they’re teaching
  • Vintage fabric collections

The first time I saw an old trunk used  for a presentation was at a quilt show.  One of the quilters displayed an attractive arrangement of clothing (wearable art) that she had designed and made.  She also produced patterns of her work, modeled and talked about it for entertainment as well as instructon.

Since then I’ve seen “Trunk Shows” advertised by many quilters as a way of presenting their work and stories.

Have you used antique trunks for your displays?
