Quilters “Going Green” – Has This Changed Your Quilting?

Even though some may be getting tired of the term, “going green,” it appears to be here to stay…at least for the short term. It’s the latest catch term for showing you’re concerned about the environment and are participating, in some way, to care for it.
As I go around our town, browse through newspapers and magazines, and travel, I see more and more “going green” indications related to businesses, recreation, and marketing. Even the color green is more predominant.
So I was wondering…even though quilters have always recycled and reused fabric and embellishments, has your quilting and fabric art changed at all with the concentration on enviromnental concerns?
- Do you use more recycled items?
- Do you incorporate the environment into your quilt designs?
- Does your quilting and fabric art make a statement?
- Do you talk about environmental concerns at your classes/workshops?
- Do you notice quilt shops concentrating on “going green” and environmental concerns?
- Has the color green become more prominent in your work?

Good morning,
I am in hopes of making small window quilts to keep the cold Maine winter from creeping in at night. I use fabric bags instead of plastic ones to carry home my items.

Gee, I’ve always thought of quilting as the “greenest of the green” crafts or arts.
But yes, I’ve recently started recycling the smallest of my scraps into quilted wall hangings.
