Quilting in the Garden & Other Spring Thoughts

April 7, 2007 by Mary Emma Allen

When I saw the eye-catching cover of Quilting in the Garden, by Barb Adams and Alma Allen, at the PickleDish site, my thoughts turned to spring and gardening, flowers and quilting…just in time for the Arts and Design Channel’s Spring Showcase.

This brought to mind other garden and floral themes that permeate throughout the quilting world and have been around since Grandmother’s Flower Garden and others.  As you take a walk through quilting history, you’ll find that flowers inspired many of the pioneer quilters, sometimes from gardens with masses of flowers and others that consisted of a single rose bush on the harsh prairie.               How are flowers and spring and the miracle of growing things inspiring your quilting and fabric art?
