Quilting Sustains & Inspires

Throughout a very serious and lengthy illness, quilting has sustained my daughter. She hasn’t been able to do any of her fabric art until recently, but when she was in the hospital, we’d take her quilting magazines to her. Quilting buddies stopped by to see her when she was in the hospital and her forays home. Chatting with them gave her something to think about and look forward to.
Members of her small local quilting group, and a larger range of quilting friends, sent cards and notes and surprise boxes of fabric and embellishments. They e-mailed me for updates and kept her in their prayers. (This is not to say others weren’t concerned and kept in contact with us about her over the past six months.)
Her first outing, when she was able to get out and about, even in a limited way, was to her fabric art group’s meeting. There she helped plan for a quilt show they are participating in. This past week she felt well enough to finish her pieces that will be on display.
Quilting and fabric art inspires the beholder and the quiltmaker and can sustain them through difficult situations. Have you been in a situation where your quiltmaking kept you going?
