Quilters sometimes are in a quandry whether to use straight or bias binding on their projects.
- Is one easier to make?
- Is one easier to use?
- Is one better to use than the other?
Here’s some useful information at Quilted Paradise – Bias Binding vs. Straight Binding. It should help you decide which you want to use, and when it might be better to use one than the other. Have fun!
Do you have a preference yourself?

My binding type depends on (1) the size of the quilt and (2) the amount of fabric I have. For smaller quilts, I use straight binding. For larger quilts, if I have enough fabric, I will use bias binding. I think the bias looks better and causes the quilt to lay better, but I’ve done it both ways.
I tend to use straight edge binding on my baby quilts, mostly because I’m *cough* too lazy to make the bias edging.
I also don’t expect the quilt to stick around long enough for the typical arguments for using bias edging to matter. Just simpler to make the straight stuff.
