Quilts From Heaven…Another Quilting Book That Intrigues Me

I’m always on the lookout for books that relate to quilting, often those that are inspirational and evoke memories.  I discovered Quilts From Heaven , Finding Parables in the Patchwork of Life, by Lucinda Secrest McDowell at Penelope Anne’s Manic Bookworm’s Ballroom.

According to Penelope Anne, “This book was very rewarding, it shared numerous moments of truly touching personal affirmations that directly correlated to a quilt pattern in each chapter. “

Then Penelope Anne posted a poem from the book, Pieces of My Quilt, starting with “If quilts could talk…..”

Doesn’t that simply lure right into wanting to read the book?

Also, doesn’t it make you want to write down what your quilts might say if they could talk?

What would your quilts, old and new, say?

I’ll have to get hold of a copy of that book. Sounds interesting.

My quilts probably have a story to tell, but the loudest they speak to me is when I’m quilting them. I handquilt and I rarely know what the pattern will be until the quilt is on my hoop. Then I have to wait for it to tell me.

I had my beautiful 9-patch colour wheel quilt in the cupboard for a year because it wouldn’t tell me how to quilt it. Every time I tried something, it didn’t work.

Same thing for a quilt for my friend’s 50th birthday. It took almost a year for me to quilt it (very, very long for me) because it wasn’t cooperating.

    I know, I’m odd. :-)

  2. Thanks for stopping, Marijke, and sharing about your quilts speaking to you. That’s so interesting how your quilts seem to tell you what pattern to use and how to quilt. I wonder if that happens to other quilters.
