Rachael Ray, a Healthier Generation & Donuts

You know, it does seem like an odd series of events.  Only a few people have noted the conflicting news

Rachael Ray has begun a partnership with the Alliance for a Healthier Generation at the same time that her Dunkin’ Donuts promotion is kicking in.  Hmmm…let’s fight childhood obesity, but first take a quick detour by the Dunkin’ Donuts??

In fairness to Rachael Ray, the Yum-O Organization is working to teach families all the pluses for eating together in a healthy way and supposedly her Dunkin’ promotions will start including healthier alternatives on the Dunkin’ Donuts menu.  We will soon discover if there is any follow-through.

Also, I would say that having a donut or bagel here and there is not the problem.  Over consumption and lazy lives are what drive the obesity epidemic in the United States.  We have entitlement issues.  That voice in our head asking, “Why should I have to stop?”

We our a society that the more you have of anything means you are the definition of success.  How many of us have only one TV?  How many of us long for that big screen flat screen TV?  Just take a look at the housing market.  Foreclosures are reaching an all time high, due to people wanting bigger homes that they truly can’t afford.

We are a country of “I have it, therefore I am”.

Rachael Ray, Dunkin’ Donuts, even the Alliance for for Healthier Generation can’t help or even hinder our country’s fat layer until we all receive an attitude adjustment.
