I hear you, sista! We're in Indiana and my 2-year old's grandparents live in Wisconsin and New York. All our "vacation" time is spent making sure they get to see the little guy. So much for a family vacation!

It is fortunate that you (and I for that matter) can actually boil it down to choice sometimes. There are those that have much harder choices to contend with (stay home or put food on the table).

While it is not easy for anyone stuck with such choices, I'm thankful that mine have much less dire consequences (usually).

I vote family. Easy for me to say, I know, since I'm not you. But. With my kids at 14 and 11, I'm starting to see a time when they will be out on their own, and not available to go camping, or Disney, or any other fun family thing. Its a little panic-inducing because they are growing up so fast. So, to heck with work. It will be there when you get back.
