Recovering from a Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Setback

I am finally feeling a little bit better after my reaction to foods containing MSG. I am about 60 % right now, but that is enough to feel well enough for me to go to work. I will let the household chores lapse for another couple of days, while I further recover. This weekend while I was incapacitated, made me think of the things I do, when I’m not feeling well. So here is a list of everything that I did to pass the time….

  • slept about 12 hours a night., plus a nap during the day (of at least an hour)
  • watched movies -thank goodness for Starflix (the Canadian equivalent of Netflix) I love this service, because I don’t have to leave the house to rent them
  • had someone read to me out loud my favorite childhood book "Robert, the Rose Horse" over and over again.
  • did a walking meditation, when I was able to finally go outside – I will be posting more about meditation very soon
  • attempted to cook some vegetable soup (aka magic soup) but somehow made the vegetables mushy….(mum, you need to come over and show me how to make this properly)
  • Listened to music on my ipod…Cat Stevens is an especially good choice, since his music is not at all harsh and intrusive, but rather calming
  • watched old skool cartoons "The Flintstones"
  • yoga – well, I finally did a little tonight, and I made sure that I did not bend at the waist so my head would be pointing downwards.

I was successful on staying on the BRAT diet, although I am craving real food. Today I moved onto juice, half an apple, celery, a plum and a very little bit of very plain chicken. I seem to be doing ok. I really wasn’t expecting that I would still be feeling bad, almost a week later. This just shows me that while I live a fairly normal and healthy life, CFIDS has not let go of me completely, yet. Its still a struggle. However, this weekend showed me that when we are feeling really not good, that we should make sure that we are taking adequate care of ourselves, and have a bit of fun while doing it.

Please leave me a comment with what you do, when you are having a hard time of it……I mean, when you aren’t busy taking care of all the other stuff. It would be useful to everyone.

Now if you excuse me, I have one more movie to watch before I call it a night.
