Red, White, & Blue Flowers!

Since today is the 4th, I figured we’d keep it chill and just take a look at some red, white, and blue choices for the garden. I really like blue flowers of all sorts especially because of their moonlight garden advantages (i.e. glowing look) at night if you get the right shade of blue. I’m not as big a fan of red flowers, mainly because I just don’t love the color red as a rule, but I’ve rounded a couple up I like for the occasion. I do like white flowers, but I don’t like to plant too many in a pot or in the ground, simply because once they get past their prime, white flowers tend to look worse than other colors. You can see the spots and dings on them clearer, but some are nice for sure, especially as accents around other plants.

All that said, here are my July 4th red, white, and blue picks.

  1. Echinacea Tomato Soup – I JUST recently saw these, and love them. I’ve only seen purple Ehinacea, so this is a cool switch.
  2. ROSA: Blue Girl – blue roses are beautiful, but there aren’t many true blue varieties. I like this one, because it’s a subtle lavender blue.
  3. Beauty of Moscow Lilac these are white with a pinkish flare (buds start pink – but flowers open white). Tinted flowers and lilacs rock IMO.
  4. Geranium Rozanne – I like geraniums in salads and on cakes and think the blue would contribute to an awesome 4th of July dish.
  5. Deutschland Astilbe – these are cool filler flowers and look explosive enough for a 4th of July bouquet.
  6. Carefree Spirit – I’m actually not a huge fan of red roses in almost any style, but I do kind of like these for the 4th. They’re simple and have that great pop of yellow inside.
