Dr. Bruno Cortis, assistant professor of medicine at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, spoke at Holy Spirit Catholic Church this past week and focused on the role of faith in healing. He believes that support from family, friends, and the church can help people manage high cholesterol, hypertension, and diabetes as well as anger and depression which can exacerbate the effects of those risk factors.
Dr. Cortis also believes in the power of meditation.
In prayer, you talk to God. In meditation, God talks to you. If you meditate, your life will change.
Over the years, a number of studies have examined the link between prayer and healing. One study in which born-again Christians were asked to pray for 192 people hospitalized with heart problems, they fared better than the 201 not targeted for prayer and required less medication and less help breathing. Results from these studies, however, have been highly conflicting.
What do you think about the power of prayer and faith to improve your health?
