Remember to walk
Many of us have resolved to get more exercise beginning this fine New Year’s Day.
However, exercise is beneficial for more than just being able to wear our jeans again after holiday food consumption.
Studies show that moderate exercise such as walking may be associated with a lower risk of vascular dementia in people in their sixties.
However, the effect doesn’t necessarily extend to reducing the risk of Alzheimer’s Disease, a different disease mechanism than vascular dementia.
It’s important to note that the research doesn’t mean that people get dementia because they lead unhealthy lifestyles, but, that physical activity can possibly provide some benefits and delay the onset of symptoms.

Thanks for your comment on our blog - I guess creating change in the new year is on a lot of our minds.
In looking over your blog posts, I was particularly interested in your description of the double bind you find yourself in with your mother-in-law. Ironically that’s a subject that is rarely addressed in the Sandwich Generation ‘literature’ yet one that is extremely complicated and challenging. If you’re interested, I could forward you an article that you or your husband could encourage his mother to read!
