Remembrance Day – Lest We Forget

Veteran’s Day in the United States, Remembrance Day here in Canada. Regardless of the name, the sentiment is the same.
As our veterans age and succumb to age and illness, there are fewer and fewer who remember. The symbol of the poppy, worn in Canada to remember those who fought in past wars and who are on peacekeeping missions now, is being seen less and less on the streets and sidewalks of our country.
I was born of Dutch parents who lived through WWII. They remember the Canadian soldiers as they liberated the Netherlands. They remember the Canadian soldiers who rescued them from starving to death.
Never forget the power of good and what it can do over evil.
Terry Kelly, a singer from Canada’s maritimes, came across a situation in 1999, when he was in a grocery store that was observing two minutes of silence at 11 a.m. on the 11th day of the 11th month. All were observing, except for one man who was there with his young daughter.
What came of this encounter was a beautiful song called A Pittance of Time, written for us to remember the past. I encourage you to click on the link and listen and watch.
