Researching Your Quilting Heritage

Do you have a quilting heritage…a line of quilters dating back in history? Can you follow this trail with quilts or references to quilts and fabric art? Better yet, do you have any quilts made by ancestors?
I’ve begun exploring my quilting heritage and established a blog, Tales of the Trails End Quilters, to record the details for family members and others interested in quilting. I’ve discovered that quilting dates back at least to my great grandmother, for my grandfather mentions her quilting bees in his journal.
On the more recent side of the picture, my daughter and granddaughter delve into quilting and fabric art. At one time, I operated a quilting business from our home and now write about this art.
Why the Trails End Quilters? That’s the name of the farmstead where my mom grew up, where I sat beside my grandmother and made my first quilt, where Mother’s grandmother held quilting bees. Even though Trails End Farm is no longer owned by the family, memories abound of good times there.
If you don’t have a quilting heritage that goes back into history, realize you’re beginning one with your own work. Keep a record of what you’re doing for future generations.
