Review: Kellogg’s FiberPlus Antioxidants Dark Chocolate Almond & Chocolate Chip Bars

The first thing I’d like to say about Dark Chocolate Almond and Chocolate Chip FiberPlus Antioxidants bars from Kellogg’s is they taste really wonderful! I recently received a box of each to review.

fiber-plus-choc-chip.jpgIf you’re a chocolate lover looking to get a fiber fix, you may have a new item for your grocery list.

But the second thing I’d like to say is, take it easy! These aren’t “snack bars.” They contain some serious fiber — 35% of your daily recommended intake. That may not seem like a lot, but your body needs time to adjust to this fresh influx of fiber. Plus, you should also drink plenty of water.

There’s a warning on the side of the box that’s easy to miss:

“NEW USERS: Increase your fiber intake gradually. Gastrointestinal discomfort may occur until your body adjusts.”

I started out with one bar a day, but by the second day I had that gastrointestinal discomfort (such as cramps). So, do keep this in mind when you’re starting off. If you keep at it, your body will adjust.

What’s inside?

In addition to 35% of your daily fiber, you also get antioxidants — vitamin E and zinc (20% of daily recommended value each). The bars also contain 10% of daily recommended calcium intake. The Dark fiber-plus-dark-choc-almond.jpgChocolate Almond bar has 5g of fat (2.5g is saturated), and the Chocolate Chip bar has 4g of fat (2g is saturated). Ah… that’s why they taste so good! Get the full nutrition info online at Kellogg’s.

Even with the fat content, FiberPlus Antioxidants can be a tasty way to add fiber to your diet. There’s no grainy texture or sense that you’re eating something “good for you.”

Fiber is important to your health for reasons beyond just staying regular. Fiber makes you feel full longer to help manage your weight, and it promotes heart health as well.

If you’ve tried FiberPlus Antioxidants, please leave a comment on what you think.

These things cause some serious gas!!! They taste delicious but take my advice, only eat one a day, no more!!! They wreak serious havoc on the digestive system! After about 4-6 hours of eating one, beware and DO NOT get into a confined area b/c you will make a total ass of yourself! BEWARE….seriously….they cause violent bouts of raunchy, awful gas!!!!

  2. Gypsy, you are so funny! Yes, I’d agree that you don’t want to try one for the first time the morning of a big meeting at work. : )

  3. first time says:

These bar where very good!!!….But later on down the line it gave me some serious gas!!!…I blew my husband away..lol…So watch out people, I don’t think I’ll buy this product again

  4. Jen says:

Totally agree, gas GALORE. I made the mistake of eating 2 in one day on vacation. My roommate wanted to kill me! I ate one a day after that and she was still dying.

I am trying it again today to see what happens. If the gas is as bad as it was before, then I’m done w/these things.

    Oy vey…

  5. kb says:

AGH. I was trying to figure out where this was coming from….now I know. GAS GALORE. I did one a day for the last three weeks. I have never had such bad cramps and gas.

  6. meg says:

LOVE the taste…. hate the gas! Everyone is so right about it being HORRIBLE gas. I’m not in discomfort from the gas, just the after effects!! And anyone around me for that matter!

But I can’t stop eating them…. they are really good!!

  7. basil says:

I love both bars, For me there is no gas compared to fiber one bars (can’t do em ) I am very impressed with the fiber plus taste an will continue to buy them.

  8. Piana says:

Haha! Last night I had gas so bad I thought I was sick, good thing I read this! I ate two or three yesterday because they’re so tastey….just ate my 2nd one for today while reading this. haha I’ll cut down to one a day now, last night was the worst I’ve ever had gas.

  9. taj says:

Love these Fiber Plus bars – best tasting bar of this type. And only 2 weight watchers points per bar. No problem with the fiber. Those having a problem may not be accustomed to a high fiber diet.

  10. Jennifer C says:

These bars are DELICIOUS! I haven’t had the issue with gas but then I’ve been following a low fat/high fiber diet for quite some time. I love this product and will continue buying them.

  11. Robyn says:

I too had horrible problems with gas. I tried eating 1/3 of a bar 3 times a day, basically spreading the bar out across a whole day, and drinking plenty of water and didn’t have any gas that way. This might be a good way to work up to eating a bar all at once.

  12. Jessica says:

I couldn’t figure out why I was having such bad stomach pains and gas for over a week. It was almost impossible to sit at my desk at work all day because of the cramping. I was about to make an appointment with my doctor, but it finally went away after my two boxes of Fiber Plus ran out. I didn’t put 2 and 2 together until I bought a new box a few weeks later and the pain came back. It was awful! I only ate one a day, but it was really bad. They taste really good, but stay away from them!!!! The warning on the box is not sufficient, in my opinion. My body never adjusted to the Fiber Plus bars like the warning on the box said it should.

  13. Mel says:

whoooa babbbbby, i had one these morning and now its the evening and i’m stillll dying. i feel nauseous and sick, and i have the worst gas and terribly bloated. I’m glad i saw this because i thought there was something wrong with me. phew, but this is the last time i will ever eat one of these things. i feel miserable.

  14. Avis says:

Fiber Plus is a wonderful addition to getting your fiber instead of a snicker this is a healthy way of getting a nutritional satisfying snack bar …i love it….thanks

  15. RobNRichmondTX says:

This really cracks me up, I was trying to find a granola bar that had less calories that my usual brand. These had about 40% less, so I ate 5 bars the first day. I couldn’t beleive the gas. It started almost immediately after I ate the first one. I didn’t realize what was causing my problem until later. From now on, I will only eat them when I know I will be alone for at least 12 hours. I am sure you will lose weight by eating these. The gas will make you float.

  16. Ricki says:

I ate two of these this morning for breakfast and they are SOOOO good but a few hours later, I have the worst gas. I just cannot stop letting it out! I am a person who has no problem getting fiber normally but these bars are just crazy with the gas… weird but they are delicious!

  17. Nicole says:

These bars are so good! Delicious considering I expected them to taste like cardboard. Pretty healthy so I buy them. The first day.. I have one for breakfast. Two hours later at work I’m crippled at my desk with stomach cramping like I never felt before. I didn’t put two and two together until today and decided I would “google” if anyone else is getting sick from Fiber Plus. So glad I found this. Ive been through a box and a half … been sick for a whole week. Cramping and nausea… was ready to go to the doctors. So glad I found this. Definately would not recommend these bars.

  18. annie says:

If you have to add fiber to your diet, these are really good. Take some Beano before eating them to avoid the gas.

  19. Jason says:

Proceed with caution. Serious gas, bloating, and even worse WILL happen unless you start slowly. I repeat, start with maybe 1/2 a bar per day and increase gradually. Don’t make the same mistake I did…

  20. Melanie says:

I usually have one a day & *always* have it with a really big glass of water (cause I figure that much fiber is gonna need some water).

I’ve never had any problems with gas or bloating so I was kind of surprised to read all the other comments.

  21. John says:

These bars have BHT. BHT has been linked to cancer, developmental toxicity, allergies, neurotoxicity, endocrine disruption, biochemical or cellular level changes. It is primarily used to prevent fats in foods from becoming rancid – but it is also used in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, jet fuels, rubber, petroleum products, electrical transformer oil, and embalming fluid. One of the things in it’s MSDS says….. Ingestion causes Abdominal pain. Confusion. Dizziness. Nausea. Vomiting.

Just one reason to read whats on the label before you eat. Other bars like Fiber One does not have this chemical in the label so it may be better to eat.

  22. yasmen says:

    i love it ………………..

  23. JB says:

Wow! I was wondering where all this gas was coming from. Good thing I am a stay at home mom! I love them too much to give them up though. Plus it’s a good way to get in my fiber…I eat 2 per day. Hope my body adjusts!:)
