Review: Special K Blueberry Cereal

blueberry-special-k.jpgIf crunchy cereal is important to you, this one might steal your heart.

I received a box of Kellogg’s Special K blueberry cereal for review, and I’m so glad I did.

This Special K cereal contains blueberry, rice and wheat flakes with oat and blueberry clusters. When I first opened the box, a rush of blueberry smell came at me. I was concerned that the cereal would taste artificial and just too blueberry.

But that wasn’t the case, or taste! Special K blueberry cereal had just the right smack of blueberry flavor for me and it didn’t taste artificial. But what amazed me the most was the crunch that just kept going. I didn’t have to worry about any soggy flakes. I’m a slow eater, so that’s important.

What’s inside?

One serving is 3/4 cup with fat free milk. (I use rice milk instead.) With that, you get 0 fat and 0 cholesterol. You’ll also receive 45% of your daily iron and 35% of vitamin C. You can view the rest of the nutrition info here.

You can also make this cereal part of your diet if you choose to participate in the Special K Challenge to lose up to 6 pounds in 2 weeks.

Is it perfect?

Why no. It contains some artificial flavors and preservatives. Obviously, it’s not organic, but the box is made of 100% recycled paperboard. I’d like to see Kellogg’s come out with an organic line of cereal.

Worth a try?

Yes. Take a minute to compare it to your current cereal. You may find that Special K has more vitamins and less fat.

Have you tried the new blueberry Special K cereal?

I think we must have had 2 different boxes of this cereal, Peggy. I’ve even already written to Kellogg’s about this. I have been so disappointed in this $4.49 box of cereal that it is still sitting on my counter. And that’s sad considering blueberry is my favoriate breakfast fruit, cereal/granola topper & pancake batter addition.

There is limited blueberry flavor, let alone smell. When I sniffed the inside of the bag as I opened it, I expected a fresh fruity smell. Yet, I smelled nothing but cardboard and the rice flakes.

I think they need to redo the recipe a bit.

  2. Meridith,

That surprises me. I’ve actually bought more of this cereal and it smelled very blueberry. It doesn’t have an overpowering blueberry taste, but I like it.

Sorry! Hope you get a replacement.

That’s strange. I just had my first bowl this morning and I’m still tasting blueberry! (3 hours later.)

This cereal has mega blue berry taste and smell in my opinion. I like it. But it is VERY blueberry.

I just wanted to comment on how well I like the Blueberry Special K cereal. I can’t get enough of them. They are very flavorful, and have just the right amount of Blueberry taste. I love them and can’t get enough. Keep them coming.

  5. Thanks for visiting Karla. I agree that this cereal does that that perfect balance of blueberry taste, and it doesn’t seem fake.
