Review: Thera Cane, My Friend

The Thera Cane for deep pressure massage was recommended to me by a physical therapist for neck and shoulder pain. This contraption is a bit difficult to imagine without seeing a photo, so take a look:

I was resistant to buying a Thera Cane because I didn’t want another gadget to keep up with, and I didn’t want to spend $35. I finally broke down and purchased one from Relax the Back. Yes, I paid $35, no amazing sale price or anything.
My Thera Cane came with an owner’s manual explaining how to best use the product. The manual discusses trigger points and how to use the Thera Cane for the neck, back, shoulders, legs and arms, as well as other areas (ribs, hips, chest and even buttocks).
Overall, I’m happy with the Thera Cane. It’s easy to use to apply pressure to sore muscles, and helpful for hard-to-reach places like the back. If you think you don’t have sore muscles in your neck and shoulders, think again. Most of us do. You can feel around for them my pressing with your fingers.
Does it actually relieve pain? You may not think a self-massage with such a strange-looking tool would relieve pain, but it does. Of course, the pain won’t go away forever magically, but it’s still a useful tool to incorporate along with stretches and other exercises. I just wish the Thera Cane were covered under insurance or just a little bit cheaper…
Have you used the Thera Cane?
